The Arrival of Large Models: A Savior for PPT Creation

Large models have arrived, offering a lifeline to every working professional who relies on PPT presentations. Even Robert Gaskins, the inventor of PPT, has lamented: ‘Indeed, many people spend a lot of time on PPTs, just as they do on other matters.’ In the past, creating PPTs was an energy-draining task. Writing content, layout design, color matching, and image selection, and if one desires a more advanced presentation—introducing animations and special effects.

A simple 20-slide PPT would take at least a day to complete. For business plans, speeches, and product launches, one would need to hire a designer for beautification, with the cost starting at around 10,000 for one business plan. Now, with the advent of large models (text-to-text, text-to-image), PPT has become the best application scenario. By simply inputting a theme, within less than 2 minutes (from outline generation to PPT creation), a beautifully laid out and decently contented PPT (content must still be revised by oneself) is produced.

For instance, Gamma, a company established less than three years ago. Before 2023, it had only 2,000 test users; however, after the launch of AI-generated PPT features, Gamma has added 20 million users in the past year. It has rapidly become a global phenomenon in AI products. An in-depth review of 12 AI PPT products might lead some to argue: ‘PPT templates have been around for a long time, isn’t AI-generated PPT just template generation?’ Indeed, PPT templates are already mature.

For example, template websites like Canva and iSlide are abundant. What AI PPT can solve are: First, content issues. Users input a theme, and the large model generates PPT structural content (outline and detailed text); users upload content (text/images/links), and the large model summarizes to generate a PPT outline. The AI generating content, with images generated by DouBao AI. Second, image selection issues.

AI can automatically search for images based on context or generate images to match the content (such as Gamma, iFlytek’s Smart Text). Third, layout issues. AI excels at structuring, being able to generate structured content and layout it by itself. While past PPT templates addressed aesthetics, they failed to solve content issues, requiring one to fill in content page by page, which is actually more inconvenient.

Thus, AI-generated PPT was born. After more than a year of development, there are now countless AI PPT products on the market. To help everyone improve decision-making efficiency and avoid choice paralysis, I have tested all mainstream AI PPT products on the market to see which ones are truly user-friendly.

It’s not just an evaluation, but also a detailed function comparison. First, let’s present the result chart: I spent two consecutive days creating this table. It’s not too much to ask for a like, a ‘watch’ and a share, right?

The 12 products are: Gamma, AiPPT, Baidu Wenku, Kimi+, WPS AI, islide, PPT in Seconds, Wanzhi, iFlytek Smart Writing, Qingzhu Office, Meitu PPT, and Tencent Docs.

Among them, some were originally engaged in design and material libraries and later shifted to the AI-PPT track; some are traditional office software that now adds AI PPT functions; some are developed by large models themselves; and some are independent startups specifically focusing on AI PPT.

Websites originally for design and material libraries, such as AiPPT (from the same company as Aishijie) and islide, have an advantage in aesthetics, but the content quality is not very good. They should be encapsulated based on open-source models, and there is a gap in performance compared with mainstream models.

Those with a large model background, such as Kimi, iFlytek Smart Writing, Tencent Docs, Baidu Wenku, Wanzhi, etc., generally have relatively high content quality, but their aesthetics are inferior to products from a design background. For example, Wanzhi has a very limited template library and an old-generation layout style.

The function comparison is mainly divided into six parts:

I. Generation forms.

There are generation by entering a theme, generation by uploading a document (it can be an outline you wrote or a large paragraph of plain text), generation by summarizing a web page, and generation of a PPT from another PPT. Generation by entering a theme is basically supported by all; for other functions, each product varies.

II. Template situation.

Except for Wanzhi and Tencent Docs, which have very few templates, the others provide rich templates. Some also support uploading your own templates (AiPPT, Baidu Wenku, islide, PPT in Seconds).

III. Online editing situation.

Except for very few products that do not support online modification and presentation (such as islide, which does not support online modification, online presentation, and even cloud storage. If you accidentally close the web page, you won’t even be able to find the PPT you made), the other products support online modification, presentation, and cloud storage. It is worth mentioning that Gamma supports AI-generated images for illustration, and the image quality is very high.

IV. Copyright situation.

Many products do not pay much attention to this issue. When using PPTs generated by AI for commercial purposes, especially pay attention to the copyright of fonts and images.

V. Generation time.

It is generally very fast. From generating an outline to generating a PPT, the whole process will not exceed 2 minutes. If there are a bit more words and pages, it will be relatively slower.

What’s rather unexpected here is Gamma. It not only has to generate PPTs but also create AI-generated images, and amazingly, it can complete these tasks within 30 seconds. It’s really impressive.

VI. Pricing

Basically, most products embed the charging link in the PPT download section and charge users on a monthly/yearly/lifetime VIP basis. Of course, there are also completely free ones, mainly those powered by several major models.

After comparing the functions, I ran all 12 products with the same theme. Based on the actual results, I scored them from six dimensions: content relevance, content quality, relevance of accompanying images, aesthetics, and cost-effectiveness. For the detailed scoring, please refer to the following table.

Main Recommendations

Based on the above situation, I mainly recommend these 6 AI PPT products.

1. Gamma can be regarded as the top in the current AI PPT field. There’s not much to say. Its only drawback is the high price. The personal version costs $10 per month, and the enterprise version costs $20 per month. You can register with a QQ email and start using it. Many of its functions lead the entire industry, such as AI-generated accompanying images, generating PPTs by summarizing web pages, and AI modifying single-page PPTs. Moreover, its aesthetics are really nice, with a simple style, clear layout, and rich styles. It’s the first choice for paying users.

2. AiPPT has rich functions and diverse templates. The generated outlines can be exported as mind maps, and it supports uploading custom templates. It also takes into account issues related to copyright and commercial use. Overall, its functions are relatively strong, but the content quality still needs to be improved. By the way, AiPPT has also gone global and launched an overseas version.

3. Kimi + AiPPT

At the end of last month, Kimi announced a cooperation with AiPPT. Whatever AiPPT has, Kimi also has. And whatever AiPPT doesn’t have, Kimi is most proficient in. With this cooperation, Kimi has truly won big. The key point is what? It’s free! Highly recommended! Strongly recommended! Everyone go and use it for free… Of course, also note! After all, this is just an intelligent agent, and there are bound to be some deficiencies in its function presentation (such as being unable to modify the outline or upload custom templates).

4. Generating PPTs is just one of the functions of Baidu Wenku AI.

Baidu Wenku offers a variety of AI features such as mind map generation, research report creation, novel writing, job report writing, image-to-text conversion, AI audio-visual picture books, OCR recognition, image-to-PPT conversion, and voice dictation. For more details, refer to our previous review article. Experience the platform at: wenku.baidu.com

Xunfei Zhiwen, like Kimi, leverages the Spark 4.0 model and has a significant advantage in content quality. Recently, Xunfei Zhiwen has been upgraded to version 2.0, enhancing its understanding, extraction, and summarization capabilities for long texts, as well as increasing editor freedom and template richness, with AI-powered automatic image matching. Currently, use of Xunfei Spark is completely free! Experience the platform at: https://zhiwen.xfyun.cn

Tencent Docs, based on the Hunyuan model, has introduced an AI-generated PPT feature, which excels in content quality. However, in other aspects, Tencent Docs falls short. For instance, there are few templates available, and it does not support template uploads, with longer generation times. Currently, it is also free and worth trying for those accustomed to the Tencent ecosystem. Experience the platform at: https://docs.qq.com
